The Yeast Intein Database (YIDB) contains information about all
yeast inteins. Its purpose is to collate and integrate various aspects
of the inteins information from yeast. This is responsible for the
protein functioning after protein splicing.
The Yeast Intein Database is a curated database devoted to inteins.
Inteins are protein splicing elements that mediate a self-catalytic
protein splicing reaction. The Yeast Intein Database presents general
information's as well as detailed data for each intein, including
tabulated comparisons and tools for the analysis of the inteins.
The introduction page of The Yeast Intein Database provides an introduction
to protein splicing and each section of the yeast intein database
introduction link contains background materials for the general
user.
An intein is a segment of a protein that is able to excise itself
and rejoin the remaining portions (the exteins) with a peptide bond.
The Yeast Intein Database information system contain 39 previously
identified yeast intein and 46 new yeast intein along with extensive
description yeast intein and its protein sequence as well as conserved
motifs, host organism , host proteins and comments etc.
