DRD4 gene is a target for drugs which treats schizophrenia and Parkinson disease. Mutations in this gene have been associated with various exploratory behavioral phenotypes, including autonomic nervous system dysfunction, may be involved in lesion induced hyperactivity. This gene contains a polymorphic number (2-10copies) of tandem 48 nt repeats; the sequence shown contains four repeats.Associations of the seven-repeat (7R) allele of the dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) gene with the personality trait of novelty seeking and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder have been reported.
